When life is on fire and you’re just FEELING it, you are in The GROOVE!
Just like a record..
(you know I had to, I’m the “Reformed Radio Shock Jock” lol)
You know that feeling.. Everything just flows..
That’s the GROOVE!
But on the flip-side of that record..
Is a place you don’t wanna go.
And we’ve ALL been there.
It’s easy to fall into it.
And you know instantly, when you’re in a RUT!
You seem STUCK!
Nothing seems to be going right.
You may even say things like, “When it rains, it pours.”
Yea.. That sucks.
The interesting thing about these two different places..
They’re very close to each other.
There’s only ONE difference.
See, Both Grooves and Ruts come down to one thing..
In fact, most of everything you do in life does.
Habits are those powerful, yet simple forces that shape everything your life from brushing your teeth to thinking.
Some are good and some.. well, not so good.
We all have our vices, and so-called “bad habits.”
And some are worse than others.
Do you bite your finger nails?
Do you eat chocolate when you’re stressed out?
Or maybe you have one too many drinks..
Each is first a conscious choice, that repeated over time, becomes habitual behavior.
The good news about habits..
The same way you learned them, you can un-learn them.
There are a variety of different ideas about how to do this and even how long it takes.
Some say a habit can be formed in as little as 21 days. Others, say it takes more like 66.
When it comes to habits you want to break, many make the point, that it’s better to focus on creating a NEW more pleasant habit than it is to put your energy into resisting the old.
But either way all of these habits, choices, etc. come down to one thing.
A question you must ask yourself.
Does this SERVE me?
Seriously consider it.
Is this behavior leading me to a place that FEELS good?
Contributes to who I am?
And who I want to be?
If the answer is NO..
You may want to consider taking a deeper look and making some changes.
Being “In the GROOVE” is all about building habits that SERVE you.
FEELING the way you want to feel. And living the life you truly desire.
We’re emotional beings. We’re driven by passion. Logic, all too often, gets thrown out the window. But emotion MOVES you.
In order to change your habits start with ONE question.
Q How do I want to FEEL?
Get honest. Be real.
Break it down and consider if what you’re doing is bringing you closer to that feeling or further away?
What you’re doing is either serving you or binding you.
Giving you FREEDOM or creating your own prison.
But if your decisions shape your destiny, then it’s all up to you.
Which do you choose?
If you’re ready to put your fear, anger, sadness, regret, indecision in the rear view mirror, jump on board.
Larry’s the guy who I’ve learned the most from when it comes to getting in the GROOVE!
There’s a number of books on habits, I could recommend.
But these two are probably the BEST.
-This one is a classic and one that everyone should read. (Probably more than once)
-This book is a more scientific explanation of habits and more heady. But a great read.
