[00:00:00]
[00:00:00] Kyle: [00:01:00] was not very political before any of this happened. Um, I was kinda kind of thrown into, into the swamp and I’m just starting to learn more about politics and um, starting to see like real issues. Especially with the Second Amendment, we have politicians that are advocating for a new amendment. You see Gavin Newsom advocating for the 28th Amendment, which is completely unconstitutional and pretty much abolishes the second amendment that our founding fathers laid out.
[00:01:30] Kyle: So seeing things like that just. Is really disturbing and learning that we have a lot of state representatives and politic and governors such as, uh, the Tennessee Governor, um, pushing for red flag laws, and here in Michigan, I believe you guys just had red flag laws passed. I, I don’t know if it was this session or last session mm-hmm.
[00:01:53] Kyle: Um, saying that, 18 year olds can’t purchase AR fifteens, and that’s just not [00:02:00] right. It’s not constitutional.
[00:02:02]
[00:02:02] Kyle Rittenhouse, you may think, you know him. You may think, you know, a story. You’ve certainly seen him on the news, his trial. And of course, what happened to him that night in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Is, and has been the stuff of legends during the riots that took place. In 2020. With BLM and Tiefer, he’s become one of the central characters.
[00:02:46] Of our time. But. What a few heard Kyle in his own words. That’s what you’ll get a chance to do today. As Kyle Rittenhouse is our guest on this podcast. It’s [00:03:00] just a Barclay. We recorded this. Earlier in the week, Kyle had a couple events, he was visiting Michigan. We got to sit down for a long form conversation.
[00:03:10] And I think you’ll enjoy it. As I enjoy my coffee from JamNBean this morning, sipping on a fresh cup as we speak.
[00:03:22] Jam n been.com real Patriots, real quality coffee. You don’t have to compromise your values or quality. With jam nbean.com.
[00:03:34] Justin: Kyle, I appreciate you being here, man. Thank you so much. Thank you for having me Justin. So you are coming to Michigan. We wanna talk about that, the big event, what you’re up to, and, uh, kind of go through, uh, maybe some, a bit of your story. You know, I know that, uh, maybe it’s been a while since, since people have seen you and, and heard you and, and know what you’ve been up to, but you’ve been through quite a bit.
[00:03:58] Justin: And, um, [00:04:00] man, um, I, I think your story is unfortunately becoming more and more common in a lot of ways that people are getting targeted for things and they’re seeing political persecutions, um, for different reasons. Um, I. We’ve got, uh, and I don’t know how closely you follow it, but the story with, uh, Daniel Penny in New York City and he, this, the guy that’s on the subway, he goes to try and mm-hmm.
[00:04:26] Justin: Intervene. He’s a marine and he says, I wanna, I wanna help people. And people that are stepping in, in the harms way right now, finding the cells in the crossfires, um, for doing what used to be, they thought the right thing. And I know you had a very similar situation. What do you make of that Daniel Penny case?
[00:04:46] Justin: I
[00:04:46] Kyle: haven’t followed much into that situation. It’s unfortunate that there was loss of life, just like in any situation. And I’m just waiting for due process and seeing what happens, and [00:05:00] I’m just praying for Daniel Penny and his family, and. The family of the person who passed away and, um, just hoping that it’s not a political persecution.
[00:05:11] Kyle: I have, I’ve been really busy. I’ve, I haven’t had time to do a deep dive, but from what it looks like is he was protecting other people on that subway train and unfortunately somebody passed away and he was just trying to help people that were on board from getting injured.
[00:05:29] Justin: Yeah. It’s one of those that unfortunately is.
[00:05:32] Justin: More and more all too common. Um, what’s it like, I know you found yourself kind of in that place, but how old are you now? I’m 20 years old. I can’t imagine what it’s, what it’s like for anybody to get into that situation, to have to deal with that, but especially at the young age that you were dealing with it.
[00:05:51] Justin: Um, how did you make it through that man? I mean, this is, I, it’s, I wouldn’t wish this on anybody, especially somebody as, as young as, [00:06:00] as you were when you went through that.
[00:06:03] Kyle: It was, it was difficult, but having a good support team, having people around you who you could trust and who had your best interest in mind, that was really like the main component.
[00:06:13] Kyle: Having great lawyers who knew what they were doing really
[00:06:16] Justin: helped. Yeah, I, I can, I do. Do you, how much is the, I have to ask this cuz every time I talk to somebody that’s gone through something or, or going through a process of standing up, how much of this is for you? Is, is a faith component?
[00:06:33] Kyle: I would say a lot of it is, um, relying on God as an important, important thing to do and just, just praying and, um, hoping for the best and just having hope and
[00:06:44] Justin: trust.
[00:06:45] Justin: So what are you up to now, man? Because, uh, people are, are wondering, you and I just talked, you said I got a nine to five. I’m working a nine to five now, and I’m working, you’re in kind of in the political, uh, realm of things. You, I don’t necessarily, [00:07:00] were you very political before all this happened or were you just kind of propelled into it?
[00:07:05] Justin: I
[00:07:05] Kyle: was not very political before any of this happened.
[00:07:35] Kyle: So seeing things like that just.
[00:07:59] Kyle: Um, [00:08:00] saying that, 18 year olds can’t purchase AR fifteens, and that’s just not right. It’s not constitutional. People should be able to own whatever firearms they want, and they’re really, in my opinion, shouldn’t be able to age on it. There’s no age on self-defense. Our founding fathers didn’t put an age limit in the Constitution and.
[00:08:19] Kyle: Politicians shouldn’t tell us how old we have to be to go and purchase a firearm and what type of firearm we can and can’t purchase when the government has the firearms that they want to ban.
[00:08:33] Justin: What was your experience, you know, leading up to this, uh, with firearms? I mean, it seemed like when I was watching some of the things that I’d seen in the videos and stuff that you came out, it seemed like you were.
[00:08:44] Justin: Familiar. I don’t know, you know, proficient, I don’t know how, what, what level, but like, it seems like this was not something that was, um, alien to you in, in other words. Well, I had
[00:08:57] Kyle: the basic understanding of firearms. I knew firearm [00:09:00]safety, but really I was just a 17 year old kid with no experience at all.
[00:09:04] Kyle: And just like with everything in life, I have to learn, I have to grow to become experienced with things.
[00:09:11] Justin: What propelled you? That day to, to go down. I know you’ve talked a little bit about this, but like to feel like you needed, and, and one of the things that, that I was most drawn to when I saw your story come out is imagine I said, imagine the world we’re in right now where this young man felt like he had to go down there.
[00:09:30] Justin: He, he had no choice, that he was drawn to go serve his community. What, what, what felt like, what propelled you to do that? What was it?
[00:09:40] Kyle: Uh, the business owners had asked if I could come help protect the business, so I agreed and I went down there to protect the business by putting out fires and providing first aid to those who needed
[00:09:50] Justin: it.
[00:09:52] Justin: But what was that in you? I mean, like that, that’s,
[00:09:56] Kyle: it was a desire to help people who were getting hurt and [00:10:00] help, help a small business whose entire livelihood was just set a blaze the previous night and, I helped them. I was putting out fires and providing first aid to the injured and just help my community, the community that I knew and that I
[00:10:15] Justin: grew up in.
[00:10:18] Justin: So all these years now, this time that has passed, um, yeah, I know, I know you’re not there now, but do you go home much and what’s, what’s that like when you do. I
[00:10:32] Kyle: have not been back in Wisconsin. Um, I’ve been back once since the incident happened, uh, twice. Um, last time I was back it was to see my attorney, Mark Richards, who’s representing me in my civil lawsuit.
[00:10:49] Justin: How has this weird thing that’s happened where now you’re, you’ve become like a, a thing and a person who is, has some fame, has some [00:11:00] notoriety, um, people feel like, may feel like they know you, good or bad, right? But you now you’ve got, what, what do you, what, how do you deal with this at, at 20 years old?
[00:11:12] Kyle: It’s, it is difficult sometimes, but I’ve, uh, implemented a little bit of normalcy into my life. Um, going to work, working a nine to five job. Paying bills, like paying, paying my own rent. Um mm-hmm. That’s, that’s sort of what I’ve, I’ve done. I’ve, I’ve found a job, I found a really good employer who, um, is just interested in hiring me for who, um, who I am as a person, not what the media says I am.
[00:11:39] Kyle: And yeah, that’s, that’s, that’s how I’ve kind of kept my, uh, my calm in a way. Like, um, kept, stayed a little bit levelheaded and. I tried to, uh, have a little bit of a normal life by working.
[00:11:54] Justin: Now you’ve been on the other side of this media thing, so you, you, you’ve seen it, the, the, the dark [00:12:00] underbelly of it, the disgusting parts of it, but, um, What, uh, are, are, did, did you file lawsuits?
[00:12:08] Justin: Are there lawsuits in the works? I’m try to, trying to remember what that, what that was with you.
[00:12:13] Kyle: I don’t, I don’t have any lawsuits in the works right now. I am counter suing Gage Chris Roots, though he is one of the people suing me, but we’ve launched a countersuit, um, against him for assault and emotional distress, and that’s really the only civil litigation I have right now.
[00:12:32] Kyle: Yeah.
[00:12:33] Justin: Um, what do you, what about social media? I know you’re on Twitter. Where else are you and did you have any issues with censorship or any of those things that we are, uh, we’re seeing play out? We’ve, we’ve had that, I’ve, I’ve, I’ve come up against that and I, I feel like I’m just like a, a, a normal kinda, you know, we, I have a, a regional show, uh, you know, a local show, but nothing to the extent of the.
[00:12:58] Justin: The microscope you were [00:13:00] under? Um,
[00:13:01] Kyle: yeah, I’ve, I’ve experienced quite a bit of, um, Uh, quite a bit of shadow banning and yeah. Um, censoring. Um, there was a lot of payment platforms in the beginning that weren’t allowing us to crowdfund and raise money, which made it very difficult for my team to try to raise money for my defense to mm-hmm.
[00:13:21] Kyle: Help set me free. And right now I see a little bit of shadow banning on Instagram and Twitter. Um, Seems like my engagement has been really low on Twitter and Instagram. It’s gotten better since Elon Musk has taken over, but I still think it’s there a little bit.
[00:13:38] Justin: Um, yeah, I, I, I, I think there’s a lot of people in that boat too.
[00:13:43] Justin: Are you, are you excited for, um, where that platform might be headed in, in, in some ways in the future?
[00:13:52] Kyle: So, Yeah. Yeah, I’m excited. Um, I’m excited to see where it goes. Um, I love seeing a free speech platform where you can say, um, [00:14:00] whatever you want, and that it’s respected, um, by Elon and he doesn’t censor speech.
[00:14:07] Justin: So you got, I wanna tell people about it just in case they, uh, want to make some plans for this. You got a couple of events coming up. You’re actually in Michigan, so if folks want to see you, they can come and, uh, and check out, uh, these, these events. Um, First one is going to be, let’s see, looks like you are hanging out with, uh, let me check.
[00:14:32] Justin: Where is it? Oh yeah, here we go. Yeah, there we go. Boom. Defend our two-way Michigans fight for self preservation. Live July. Freedom Farms, July 19th, eight to five. Lots of folks are gonna be there. Looks like a big event. You’re excited about this, I’m sure.
[00:14:53] Kyle: Absolutely. It’s gonna be super fun. Um, I’ve been to Michigan quite a bit with it.
[00:14:57] Kyle: Do you consider yourself part of the Midwest? I consider mid [00:15:00] Michigan, part of the Midwest. Absolutely. Um, I’ve had, I have family who lives there not too far from Grand Rapids and I’m just excited to go back out there. Um, I love it. I’m looking forward to a little bit of cooler weather. We’ve been in a heat wave out here in Texas and it’s been hot.
[00:15:18] Kyle: Um,
[00:15:19] Justin: you’re gonna get reprieve from that, that’s for sure. It’ll get a little reprieve up here. It’ll be nice, man. You’ll enjoy Michigan now. I know. It’s not as free as Texas.
[00:15:28] Kyle: Uh, no, no it’s not. It’s, it’s a shame cause it’s such a beautiful state. Yeah, you have all the nature there and you have Lake Michigan, which is just a beautiful lake and I’m excited to come out here and meet all of you guys, meet all my supporters and I’m giving a speech, so that should be fun.
[00:15:46] Kyle: And I’m just looking forward to talking about the Second Amendment, talking about the right to self-defense. I’m gonna talk a little bit about some organizations that, um, you guys should support and yeah,
[00:15:58] Justin: a lot of folks asking [00:16:00] questions in the chat, so we’ll get to some of those. Uh, if you’re watching on, uh, locals right now and you are a supporter, you can do it, by the way, it’s just seven bucks a month or you can join annual and we’ll get you in, uh, with a month free.
[00:16:11] Justin: Plus I’ll give you a copy of my book. Uh, good news, hope and encouragement for trying times. We’ll get into that and, uh, get that signed and sent out to you. If you wanna ask questions, you can do that with Kyle as well. Um, so Kyle, before we, uh, dig into this, I had one question that I think, um, uh, somebody asked that I thought was really, uh, interesting.
[00:16:34] Justin: How’s your family, particularly this, this one, asks about your mom. How’s your mom handling all this and how did, how did this impact your family? And as far as this person asks, um, you know, just how that was like, I can’t imagine, um, what impact it must be for folks that are. That don’t choose, you know, look, I, I, my family doesn’t choose, you know, to be in the [00:17:00] spotlight, but you know what I do Kind of drags them into it.
[00:17:03] Justin: And you didn’t choose to be in the spotlight at all. It just kind of found you. How did the family deal with that? You know,
[00:17:11] Kyle: it’s really difficult on, on them and they’re doing good right now. And I just know it was a big strain and it was, it was probably really stressful for my mom seeing her son go through that.
[00:17:21] Kyle: But they’re doing good now.
[00:17:23] Justin: Yeah. Well, I know you had lots of prayers for people, um, you know, not, not just folks in the chat here, but people all across the country. How has this impacted, you know, I know remember we, we talked about faith in some ways, but how has this impacted your faith? Has it made it stronger going through all this?
[00:17:43] Justin: And where are you now today because of it? It has.
[00:17:46] Kyle: And I know there’s been a few times over the past couple months where I’ve fallen out and right now I’m just working on getting back into it, getting back into my faith because that should be priority number one. And just, I really [00:18:00] wanna focus on that.
[00:18:00] Kyle: And then the next couple months, it’s just growing my faith even deeper.
[00:18:04] Justin: Yeah. Well, uh, we’ll be praying for you, man. I know that, uh, that’s a big thing at 20, by the way. I did not have it all. I did not have it all together. It certainly, um, not that, not that part of life, but, um, I know when we go through things, we go through challenges, man.
[00:18:22] Justin: They really shape us. They really, they really can change us and they good, bad, and ugly. So I know you’ve come up against it. Um, One of the, one of the other things that I think, um, as we see kind of the. Weird events of the day, the things that are happening around us right now, you know, people are talking about what it’s like here in Michigan and, and you’re here to talk about two-way stuff.
[00:18:47] Justin: Um, you know, it’s interesting to me because in your situation, I don’t know that you’d be here right now if you weren’t able to. Defend yourself and with everything you went through, and we hear story after story. [00:19:00] Unfortunately, they’re not as loud, they’re not as vocal sometimes, um, you know, of the mom that had to defend herself and her kids or the single, uh, You know, uh, female who was out and, uh, she had the, you know, the great equalizer, the firearm to be able to defend herself in a situation.
[00:19:19] Justin: Absolutely. I mean,
[00:19:20] Kyle: look at young college females, 18 to 20 year old college females not being able to carry a firearm on campus because, um, they want to be able to protect themselves and then they end up becoming victims. There’s. Um, bad people out there that want to cause harm to people, and there are young females who the government says, no, we aren’t gonna allow you to exercise your God-given right to self-defense and defend yourself if you need to.
[00:19:50] Justin: Are you talking like, do you, do you get the chance to talk to folks on college campuses and, and, uh, students like that? I mean, obviously it’s, it’s weird [00:20:00] nowadays because of the way these universities are and, and how they’ve become like sort of these, you know, breeding grounds for, for just. Complete lack of common sense and, and, and delusion.
[00:20:14] Justin: But we’ve talked to Riley Gaines and, and had great conversation with her before about everything she’s gone through. And I’m finding though, like there are still lots of young people like herself, like you, that have a good head on their shoulders, that are grounded somehow. Has that been your experience?
[00:20:35] Kyle: I haven’t had, uh, the opportunity to speak to many young people. Um, the young people I have spoken to are very like-minded and of the same mindset of me, so I hope maybe one day I get to speak to somebody with a different mindset than me. So maybe I can move them to the other side. Yeah. And just explain the importance of self-defense and, um, explain our [00:21:00]right to self-defense and our right to own firearms and the right to protect our families and
[00:21:04] Justin: ourselves.
[00:21:06] Justin: Yeah. Well, Kyle, you are a, uh, I know you, you got your whole life ahead of you, you know. Uh, you are, uh, you’re, you’re somebody who, man, you’ve lived a lot right up, right up front, and, um, I can’t imagine what, uh, what it’s like, what you’ve been, been through, but you’ve come out on the other side and probably better for it.
[00:21:30] Justin: Um, and I know that no matter how old folks are, that’s something that’s, uh, that’s, that’s saying quite a bit. Well, thank you. Yeah, absolutely. Well, I, I’m gonna ask you, um, how can people stay in touch with you? Because I know we mentioned Twitter and obviously, we’ll, we’ll plug the events again, but what’s the best way, if they wanna make sure they stay in touch with you and maybe help support you or the causes that you’re involved with?
[00:21:58] Kyle: Uh, you can check me out on [00:22:00] Twitter. This is Kyle r and Instagram. This is Kyle Rittenhouse.
[00:22:05] Justin: So those are the two right now. We’ll, we’ll make sure we, uh, we keep up with you and, and, uh, and, and stay up to date. Thank you Justin. So, so No fa Facebook? No. They don’t let you on or,
[00:22:17] Kyle: um, they do, but I just don’t have a Facebook account.
[00:22:20] Justin: Um, you don’t need one. Yeah, you don’t need one. You know, I’m telling you, man, if we could drop most of these we’re on all these different platforms and. Some of these I just, uh, I kind of shake my head at, but we do our best. So, um, we’ll see. You’re gonna be out July 19th, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Freedom Farms.
[00:22:38] Justin: If people want to get the information, we’ll again, put that on the screen for everybody. It’s 1652 Kingston Road in Ionia, and it’s an all day event. It’s not just you. There’s gonna be other folks speaking there that people can come out and see. Um, but I think it, it’s gonna be a great time and a great, uh, a great opportunity to support the cause And of course, uh, come together and talk about some of the things that matter most.
[00:22:59] Justin: [00:23:00] Kyle, thank you for, for taking the time to
[00:23:01] Kyle: be with us. Thank you for having me, Justin. I look forward to seeing all you guys there at Freedom Farms July 19th. I’m excited to come out. There’s gonna be a lot of great organizations there. I know Great Lake, great Lakes. Gun Rights is gonna be there. Um, yeah, Brendan.
[00:23:16] Kyle: Yep, I know Brendan Brendan’s a great guy. Um, you guys should go over there and support him. If you’re truly a supporter of the Second Amendment, then you’ll, then you’ll go and support National Association for Gun Rights. Great Lake Gun r gun rights. They’re no compromise and they really helped me in the beginning and they continue to still help me.
[00:23:35] Justin: Yeah, absolutely. Well, um, one last question. I got the question from, uh, folks and supporters. Uh, Rayanne wants to know, what do you like to do for fun when you’re away from the spotlight? Uh, I know you’re, you’re 20, so that could go any, you any number of directions, but, uh, what do you like to do? I love
[00:23:54] Kyle: cooking.
[00:23:55] Kyle: I, I absolutely love it. Uh, the other night I made homemade mac and cheese and. And [00:24:00] it’s just a huge stress reliever, and I just like experimenting with different ingredients. And tonight I’m making some burgers. I’m gonna ground my own beef and I’m just excited to
[00:24:10] Justin: wrap your own beef. That’s awesome. You get, you’re getting kinda, uh, in a little, little advance there, man.
[00:24:16] Justin: That’s cool. I’m just starting to learn
[00:24:18] Kyle: how to do all these things. I used to buy a packaged ground beef, but I just started, I just started learning to ground my own and it tastes, it tastes much better to me. It tastes a lot fresher.
[00:24:27] Justin: And do you have like a special blend or mixer using, I do it in a
[00:24:31] Kyle: food processor.
[00:24:33] Kyle: Okay. And that just works fine for me. I get the same texture.
[00:24:38] Justin: Very nice. What do you do with the burgers? I eat ’em. I do. You do Like, you do anything fancy? Any, any.
[00:24:50] Justin: Cause of course I, I eat him too, but, oh, I said that
[00:24:55] Kyle: because I’m hoping somebody clips that ass gonna be,
[00:24:59] Justin: um, [00:25:00]
[00:25:01] Kyle: no, I’ll do like, I’ll like toast the buns and like cut up some jalapenos and cheese and put it inside it and have like, Cheesy jalapeno burgers and yeah,
[00:25:13] Justin: I’ll put, we like eat around here, man.
[00:25:15] Justin: You’ll
[00:25:15] Kyle: see, I mean, you can tell just by looking at me, I put on a couple, a couple pounds ever since I started experimenting with my own food. That’s
[00:25:22] Justin: healthy. And you’re in Texas, so you’re, you’re allowed to, but you get good beef there too. Yeah.
[00:25:27] Kyle: Yeah. H e b
[00:25:28] Justin: has some great meat. That’s awesome, man. Somebody’s thinking Maybe you should do a cooking channel, Kyle, maybe, uh, like a cooking show or something?
[00:25:37] Justin: Uh, yeah,
[00:25:37] Kyle: maybe, maybe one day.
[00:25:40] Justin: I love it. I love it. Hey, thanks man. Thanks for taking the time, locals, folks. I appreciate you hanging with us.
