A federal appeals court has cleared the way for ICE to fast-track deportations nationwide without immigration judge hearings.
In a 2-1 ruling Tuesday, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit overturned a lower court block and upheld the Trump administration’s expansion of “expedited removal.” The policy lets immigration officers quickly deport non-citizens anywhere in the U.S. who cannot prove they have lived here continuously for at least two years.
The decision, written by Judge Justin Walker, allows the Department of Homeland Security to apply the fast-track process to its maximum statutory limit. It is a significant win for the administration’s mass deportation efforts.
