Red States vs. Blue States: Trump Wins in Court, Bed Bath & Beyond Snubs California

It’s red states vs. blue states in the battle over congressional maps: Texas Republicans just advanced a Trump-backed plan that could flip five seats, while California Democrats—led by Gov. Newsom—are moving to override their “independent” commission and redraw lines to claw back GOP gains. Out West, the 9th Circuit handed Trump a big legal win, clearing DHS to end Temporary Protected Status for about 60,000 migrants from Central America and Nepal. And Bed Bath & Beyond says it won’t open stores in California at all—blasting the state as overregulated and risky—as the revived brand expands in other states like Tennessee.

  1. It’s red states vs blue states. In Texas and California lawmakers are redrawing congressional maps.

In Austin, Texas Republicans just pushed through a Trump-backed congressional map aimed at flipping up to five seats, after Democrats ended their walkout; meanwhile in Sacramento, Gov. Gavin Newsom and Democrats are advancing a plan to temporarily sideline California’s independent commission and redraw lines to claw back GOP seats, with the state Supreme Court clearing the path for a November vote.

  2. 9TH CIRCUIT GIVES TRUMP A WIN ON REVOCATION OF LEGAL STATUS OF 60K FOLKS

The 9th Circuit just handed Trump a win—granting an emergency stay that lets DHS move forward with ending Temporary Protected Status for about 60,000 migrants from Honduras, Nicaragua, and Nepal, reversing a lower-court block.

  3. Bed Bath & Beyond says it won’t open any California stores — calling the state “overregulated, expensive and risky.”

Executive chair Marcus Lemonis says Californians will be served online only as the revived brand opens new, smaller stores elsewhere (it just launched in Nashville). Gov. Newsom’s office mocked the move on X; Lemonis shot back that it’s about basic economics.
